Gaaargh!...I hate writing these things. I'll try and have a go without it coming out a garbled mess...
Anyway, I'm Melissa, a marginally eccentric, veggie, 31 year old closet crossdresser. I'm switch, but lean towards the dominant side, although I prefer to be submissive when dressed.
I love to dress up (well obviously!) in a variety of kinky outfits. Love tights, stockings, knee-high socks, heels, ugg-style boots and rubber. I don't get to dress fully very often, but I can usually be found to have panties, bra and fishnet knee-highs under my normal clothes. I love to role-play and my interest here leans towards the darker fetishes...
I'm into Anime, SciFi/fantasy, environmental causes, reading and all manner of slightly geeky things. I'm attracted to people with a slightly gothic/emo outlook on life.
Things that turn me on include:
-intelligence -glasses -dark eyeliner -geekiness -girls in clumpy boots
...I might add some more in here later, but the list could go on forever...
I love strap-on sex. I'm slightly curious about what a cock would feel like, but I don't know if I'll ever have the opportunity (or the inclination) to find out.
I'm polyamorous by nature, but currently in a monogamous relationship, so I'm mainly here to explore my interest in the lifestyle and to find new and interesting friends.
I've just discovered an exhibitionist side, and love to cam, so keep an eye out for me...
love Mel xxx.

A trans- glossary

(Pic: Aphroditus, a male form of Aphrodite, celebrated in ancient Greece in a transvestite rite...)
I've seen quite a few of these, but I though I'd have a go at writing my own because I thought I could include a few unusual terms that you might not have seen before. It's common with these sorts of lists for people to allow their personal prejudices creep into the definitions, often ranking the terms as if they were levels to be obtained in a role playing game. Of course, no such ranking exists, and it's important to remember that every trans-peep is different, and will often find a place they feel comfortable in that does not fit well with the established definitions.
Transgender – An umbrella term for anyone who's gender identity does not conform with the sex they were assigned at birth. This includes both transvestites and transsexuals.
Cisgender – A term used to describe someone who's gender identity conforms with their natal sex.
Bigender – Someone who has two distinct gender identities and may move between them depending on context.
Transsexual – A transgender person who has taken steps to align their sex with their gender identity. This might might include taking hormones and other drugs in order to take on the physical characteristics of their perceived gender, living full time as their perceived gender, sex reassignment surgery (see below) and changing their name and legal sex on official documents.
Transvestite/Cross Dresser – Someone who wears the clothes associated with the opposite sex. This can be for a variety of reasons; it might be fetishistic; they get a sexual kick out of it; or they may cross dress to deal with gender dysphoria (see below). It's common to see these two terms used as if they were different things, although the two are synonymous and interchangeable with each other, one simply being a Latinisation of the other. However, many transvestites tend to have a preference for one or the other.
MTF/Trans-woman – Male to female transsexual. Someone who was born male, but has taken steps to become female. This might include the use of female hormones in order to grow breasts, androgen blockers to reduce the effects of testosterone, drugs to reduce or reverse male pattern baldness, orchiectomy and penectomy (surgical removal of the testes and penis), permanent body hair removal, surgery to create a vagina, facial feminisation surgery and voice training.
FTM/Trans-man – Female to male transsexual. Someone who was born female, but has taken steps to become male. This might include the use of testosterone, which causes facial and body hair to grow, the voice to deepen and also causes their clitoris to grow, partial or full hysterectomy, mastectomy and genital reconstructive surgery
HPW – Hairy Panty Wearer. A male transvestite who wears women's knickers (And sometimes other clothes), without shaving their body hair. This term is often used in a derogatory manner by those who forget that that's how most of us started cross dressing...
Shemale – A term coined by the porn industry (Also, 'Chicks with dicks...') for transsexual and transvestite performers. It's not a term that should be used, as many transsexuals consider it impolite to be reminded of their natal sex.
Futanari : Japanese for 'dual form'. Also a popular sub-genre in Hentai (Pornographic Japanese comics and cartoons).
SRS/GRS – Sex reassignment surgery/Gender reassignment surgery. Surgery that is intended to give a transsexual genitalia that has the outward appearance of that of their perceived gender.
Post-op/Pre-op/Non-op - Terms for a transsexual who has undergone SRS/intends to undergo SRS/does not intend to undergo SRS.
Genderqueer/Genderfuck/Androgyne – Terms (that are usually self-applied) for someone who, by their dress and actions, does not fit with the binary way of thinking about gender. Knowing how to address someone who is genderqueer can be difficult; many prefer gender neutral pronouns such as one, ze and hir (as in 'ze said...' or 'hir said...') or a singular form of 'they'.
Passing – Cross dressing with the intention of being perceived as a member of the opposite sex.
Transitioning – A term for the period when a transsexual begins to receive treatment to when they can legally and physically, insofar as it it possible, live as their perceived gender.
COGIATI - COmbined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory. A test that is often given to transsexuals in order to help diagnose gender dysphoria. It's not well thought of. It really is like one of those multiple choice quizzes on certain social networking sites where it is all too easy to guess the right answer.
Real Life Test/RLT – A period of time where transsexuals are expected to live full time as their intended sex before being eligible for further treatment.
Drag/Drab – Terms often used by transvestites to refer to dressing in women's clothes/dressing in men's clothes respectively. Derived from:-
Drag King/Queen – performers who impersonate the opposite sex, often in a flamboyant, over the top manner that is not unlike a caricature.
En femme/En homme – terms used by transvestites or bigender people to describe whether they are in male or female mode.
Gender Dysphoria/Gender Identity disorder – A medical diagnosis for someone who is unhappy with their biological sex. It is considered to be a mental disorder, something that many transgendered people are unhappy about.
Intersex/hermaphrodite – Someone who was born with some of the sexual characteristics of both sexes. They may or may not have surgery to align their physical appearance with that of their assigned gender. They are generally not considered transgender or transsexual.
GG/Genetic Girl/Natal female – Terms used to describe a woman who was assigned the female sex at birth.
Linetrap – A term for a boy who is indistinguishable from a girl. This is derived from an occasion where the now transsexual porn star, Bailey Jay, was standing in a queue flashing his (now her! Confusing... ) chest at people. When approached by a security guard she replied, 'S'okay, I'm a guy...'

Shopping, again...

I went shopping with S over the weekend, and was slightly horrified at the selection available in clothes shops at the minute. It seems that the prevailing fashions are predominantly nautical whimsy, granny chic (Of course, not wishing to say anything detrimental about any sexy grannies who might read this... ) and blouses with prints that remind me of 80's bank cashier uniforms, none of which is much to my taste...
It's just as well that I don't have any money for anything new at the minute. I wouldn't know what to buy...
Like most cross dressers, when I dress I tend to dress like a teenager. I think this is mostly caused by the fact that I missed out on having my own female teenage years. Most of wardrobe is made up of brightly coloured tops and tights, and short denim miniskirts. This isn't because I necessarily want to look like a teenager, I just think the clothes are more fun. However, this creates something of a problem. It is dichotomous with my desire to be passable. I'm 35 now, and the clothes that I have aren't the clothes that a 35 year old woman would usually wear. Well, not if they want to pass unnoticed in the street.
I'm not good with dealing with attention. There are some cross dressers who are all bluster and confidence, and I really am envious of them. If I was a little more confident I really wouldn't mind if people clocked me as a dresser in the street. I'm not sure if I'd mind anyway, mentally and rationally, but it wouldn't stop my body's natural panic response kicking in. I think I might have to start shopping for some more age-appropriate clothes...

Where do you get ideas for blog signatures from? I love looking at people's signatures; some are bling encrusted, some contain jokes, others are quotes or links to recent blog posts...
Mine tend to be in Latin. I love Latin; it's something I picked up from playing Warhammer 40,000 as a teenager, where Latin was used as a substitute for a far future language. See? Geek hobbies can be educational too...
I've had three so far:-
Exsisto praeclarus ut invicem. – 'Be excellent to one another.' A quote from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
Iusti este et nolite timere. - 'Be just and fear not.' My favourite Shakespeare quote from Henry VIII.
...And my current signature...
Estne volumen in toga, an solum tibi libet me videre? - 'Is that a scroll in your toga, or are you just pleased to see me?'
At least I hope that's what they say. I'm not that good at translating into Latin. The GCSE that I took only taught us how to read and translate from Latin, not to write it. And much of the lessons were taken up by my Latin teacher trying to pair me off with the girls in the class, because she had convinced herself that I was going to be a millionaire someday...
Well, that didn't work out as she thought...

Isn't she a little short for a stormtrooper?
The title for this blog is also the title of the book I'm reading at the minute. It's Eoin Colfer's Sixth instalment (Of three!) of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. While it's enjoyable enough, and it's nice to see the characters again, I can't help but feel it lacks a certain authenticity. Although, Colfer captures Arthur's voice particularly well. My favourite book in the series is still Life, The Universe and Everything, mainly because it was the first to be written as a novel (Although it did borrow heavily from Douglas Adams script for Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen, an abandoned big screen outing for The Doctor) and also because it's the first book in the series where I hadn't heard the jokes before!
A while ago I replaced my mouldy old VHS tapes of the TV series with a shiny new DVD box set. It was good to hear the theme tune again. It's one of my favourites. Being a DVD it came with some out-takes and 'making of' extras. I have to say they make a sharp contrast with the behind the scenes extras you get from modern TV shows. The cast all looked like they were having a miserable time while making this...

I was watching a TV show last night called 'The Hoarder Next Door' which helps hoarders de-clutter their homes. This was of particular interest to me because of my recent book de-cluttering. This particular episode was about a rather sweet gay man who had begun hoarding after he had lost his partner. I can't help but feel he was treated a little harshly by the programme makers, and it was heartbreaking to watch him part with things he obviously had an emotional attachment to (including half of his collection of 33 sewing machines).I think the show broke him slightly and he was still visibly upset by the end of the programme. What he really needed was a bigger house with more cupboards...
This man was also a cross dresser, and one of the names he'd chosen for his alter ego was Miss Bakewell Tart, which I thought was fantastic! It reminded me of some of the names on a tranny site I'm on, which allows members to change their username every few months, so people tend to have a little fun with them. Most are in the vein of IP Freely or Seaman Staines, and some are more tasteful than others, but here are some of my favourites over the years:-
Faye_Slift, Jenny_Tals, Tess_Tickles, Whore_Moans, Millicent_Tendency, Natalie_Partman, Sigourneys_Beaver, Maya_Normousbutt, Anna_Lytical, Mixie_Matosis, Donna_Kebab, Jess2impress, Penelope_Pissedoff, Trannie_Lennox, Penny_Trayshun, Hayley_Strung, Eva_Destruction, Torah_Hymen, Sarah_N_Dipity, Laura_N_Toherself, Helen_Back and my personal favourite, Miss_Anne_Thrope.
Do you give names to cars? My Transit Van doesn't really have a name, but its femme name is Bertha, because it's a tranny too... My first Mini was called Minith. A name chosen by an ex, because we were both reading a lot of Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern books at the time, and a lot of the dragons had names ending with -th. Obviously my Mini was my dragon, so we combined Mini with the -th suffix. My current Mini is Hattie, because it says 'HAT' on the numberplate. S's new car doesn't have a name yet, although 'the bruise' has been suggested...
I've often wondered about people's usernames on here. With some of them the interpretation is obvious, while others are more cryptic. What inspired yours?
I think mines fairly obvious, although I'm a little embarrassed by it now, as I don't really use the site for the same reasons that I used to. As for 'Melissa', that was actually chosen by S. She thought it would be an appropriate name for a big ugly man-woman...

Because it's Star Wars day, I thought I'd celebrate with a few pictures...

Who new what was hiding under all that armour?
This pic reminds me of the far-too-many hours spent playing Tie Fighter, and before that, X-wing on my first PC. It was a true monster of a machine. A 66MHz 486 processor (Over 20 times faster than the Spectrum or BBC micro I was upgrading from!) with a separate maths co-processor! 4MB (Yep, MB not GB...) of RAM! And a roomy 300 MB hard disk.... There was no way I could possibly fill that baby up... (Incidentally, it required 77 floppy disks to make a back-up, a long and laborious process that I only did once...)
It cost the entirety of my second year student loan and, aside from writing the occasional essay on it, it was predominantly used for playing X-wing, as mentioned, Doom, Elite II: Frontier, Civilisation, and Lemmings...

The name's Bond...

A friend of mine is having a Bond themed birthday party soon, and, because Live And Let Die is my favourite Bond film, I really, really want to go as Solitaire:-

I think S is interested in going as Baron Samedi too, so we would make a fine gender-reversed Live And Let Die themed couple. I'm so tempted. It would be a way of going out dressed without actually coming out...
It's easier because this particular group of friends are from university, and this wouldn't be the first time they've seen me in a dress. Let me explain...
Once a year the university RAG society organised a city wide cross dressing event, where the money raised from ticket sales to the city's clubs went to charity. This was before I'd fully embraced my cross dressing, but, even so, I was pretty much in heaven with this legitimate excuse to dress. My girlfriend at the time, and my best friend (also a girl) even did my make-up for me. I remember my best friend commenting on how feminine my walk was, and another occasion, when I was standing outside a McDonald's while my friends were using it as the public toilet that it is, when I spoke to one of my friends and a random girl behind me spouted, 'I thought you were a girl!'
I still have some pictures from those nights, which are the earliest pictures I have of me dressed. I'd be tempted to post them here if there's any interest in the comments...
As for the party, it all depends on whether I can buy/make/steal a suitable dress to modify (I like the red one in the pictures above, and the outfit with the headdress, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make one in time...). And also whether my nerves hold out. I might have to come up with a backup costume, just in case...

And this is just the second batch. We've already taken one load to the book bank...
In a way it feels good to lighten the load a little. Some of these books have probably cost more in fuel during various house moves than what we paid for them in the first place...

{Pic: The Nuclear Survival Handbook. I really hope I done I don't regret giving this to a charity shop...)
S and I have been having a long overdue sort through of our books, with the aim of reducing our bookshelves to just one layer of paperbacks per shelf. (Most of our shelves have two layers, making it hard to find what you're looking for.)
Most of these were bought in the days before we had the internet at home, y'know, the days when, if you wanted to find out something, you had to look it up in a book. Who else remembers that? So, with the availability of modern technology (and my abandonment of the idea of keeping *all* the books just in case we need them in the event of a nuclear apocalypse or global economic collapse), these books have to go.
We've sorted the books into two categories; the majority to go to a charity shop and a few nicer books that are worth putting on an online auction. But there is a third category of books that has created something of a dilemma. A few books really have reached the end of their useful life, being incredibly tatty (and in some cases Hamster-chewed). S has previously volunteered for a charity shop and knows what kind of books they just throw away, so we don't want to burden one with them. I'm not sure if they can go in the recycling bin, because of the glue and the binding, and the thought of sending them to landfill or otherwise destroying them makes me feel incredibly guilty, a little like Guy Montag from Fahrenheit 451. I've always considered destroying books to be a Bad Thing(TM)...
Any ideas?
